Famous Activities during the Malaysian National Day

The Malaysian National Day, also referred to as Merdeka Day, meaning Freedom Day, is an important day for Malaysia since it represents the day when the nation gained independence. This day is celebrated annually on August 31^st and comprises various activities. The first activity is the Merdeka Day parade, which an individual can watch in the morning either at the Merdeka Square or on television. Some of the attendants include the King, government leaders, and other Malaysian citizens. The next activity is watching fireworks, which are lit across Malaysian towns and cities as people celebrate the day with pomp and color. The fireworks are often lit on the eve of Merdeka Day.

One can also join the Merdeka Day drawing competitions, which any Malaysian is free to attend but is more popular among children. The goal of the competitions is to promote patriotism for the country. Another popular activity, particularly for young people, is the Merdeka Day best costume competition, where participants are required to design and showcase their costumes in front of judges based on the Malaysian flag. The judges then decide the winners. Finally, one can attend cultural workshops for free, where he or she can gain crucial knowledge about Malaysia’s culture.
